Skins Will Face Haverford in District 1 First Round

Sketchy details are floating in this morning, but the PIAA District 1 Office has confirmed that Neshaminy will play at Haverford this Tuesday, May 13 in the first round of the PIAA District 1 Tournament. There are 12 teams in the single-elimination field, and the top four seeds (Pennsbury, Christopher Dock, Tennent and Souderton) get byes. You can download the complete bracket from the District 1 website. Neshaminy has some familiarity with Haverford, having played them in the preseason and in the finals of the Reading H.S. Tournament on April 12. Haverford defeated the Skins in Reading, 2-0, in the best-of-three final.

Skins Drop Regular-Season Finale to Dock, 3-0

Langhorne -- Neshaminy faced a tough task in hosting state-ranked Christopher Dock (9th in AAA rankings), and the Skins performed admirably but lost, 3-0. Neshaminy got to 17 first in all three games but couldn't close the deal. The team ended the season with an outstanding 10-7 overall record and a 10-6 league mark.

Skins Win Final Two League Matches

(Varsity 10-6 Overall; 10-6 SOL National)
Neshaminy got two road victories on May 5 and 6 to close out the league season with an impressive 10-6 record. Bensalem fell to the Skins on Monday, 3-0, and Central Bucks South was the victim on Tuesday, 3-1. All that remains before a possible trip to the playoffs is a home match with Christopher Dock today (May 7). The varsity match begins at 3:30p with the JVs to follow. Dock is ranked 9th in the AAA state rankings, but they lost their top hitter to a broken hand recently. That note and other interesting volleyball stuff is found in this week's "Volleyball Notes" section of the Suburban One website.

Big Night for Skins and "Captain Sam"

(Varsity 8-6 Overall; 8-6 SOL National)
It was a special Senior Night for Neshaminy captain Sam Ellis and the rest of the Redskins. Ellis was outstanding all night as the Skins whipped Abington, 3-0. He set. He dinked. He dunked. He dug. He spiked. None of the three games was all that close as Neshaminy improved to 8-6 overall and in the league. Two more league matches this Monday and Tuesday, and then the home non-league finale against Christopher Dock on Wednesday. Ellis is pictured to the right, flanked by his mom (Su ... no "e" ... Sam made sure to tell me) and his dad (Ray).

Pennsbury Sweeps Skins

(Varsity 7-6 Overall; 7-6 SOL National)
Determined to make it a very happy Senior Night for the Pennsbury boys volleyball team, Ryan Bigos and Tor Cavello -- two Division I college prospects -- powered the Falcons to a 3-0 sweep of Neshaminy on April 30th. Bigos was effective both as a hitter and server. An example of his jump-serving skills was his turning a 16-14 second-game advantage into a 21-14 edge on his wicked, dipping serves. The game scores for the night were 25-14, 25-18 and 25-9. Neshaminy hopes its Senior Night is just as satisfying ... the Skins host Abington tonight (May 1st) at Maple Point Middle School. The team's lone senior, setter Sam Ellis, will be honored. It's a big game for the teams -- Neshaminy is listed at 7-6 in the SOL (3rd place), and Abington is 6-7 (4th).
