Senior Night This Thursday

The Neshaminy boys volleyball family should turn out in force this Thursday for the annual Senior Night celebration and match against Abington. It will be a time to honor the team's lone senior, Sam Ellis, who has had an outstanding career at Neshaminy. Sam intends to pursue his volleyball career as a club player at West Chester University next year. Oh yeah, he'll go to class, too. The Ellis family has been a huge behind-the-scenes influence on the program, and those in attendance will have a chance to thank them as well. SEE YOU THURSDAY NIGHT!

Skins Go .500 in Pool Play at Q-town Tourney

Neshaminy was in a challenging pool at the Quakertown Tournament on Saturday, April 26th. Council Rock-North, Souderton, Bethlehem-Liberty and Central Bucks East were the opponents. The Skins opened with a split against CR-North. The win was the first game victory of the year in three matches against CR-North. Souderton swept Neshaminy in the second match of the day, but the Skins came back with a two-game sweep of Liberty. A split with CB East ended the tournament as both CR-North and Souderton advanced to the playoff round. Neshaminy returns to action at first-place Pennsbury on Wednesday night.

Skins Lose to North Penn

(Varsity 7-5 Overall; 7-5 SOL National)
Langhorne, Pa. -- North Penn avenged an early-season defeat against Neshaminy with a three-game sweep at Maple Point Middle School on April 24th. The Skins are back in action at an all-day tournament at Quakertown High School this Saturday. Not because we have confirmation -- other than the standings on the Suburban One website -- we are nonetheless revising Neshaminy's SOL National record to read 7-5. That puts them third in the league behind Pennsbury (1st) and Pennridge (2nd).

Skins Win at Truman

(Varsity 7-4 Overall; 7-4 SOL National)
Neshaminy overcame a sluggish overall performance to defeat Truman, 3-1, on April 23rd. The Skins are back in action at home against North Penn at Maple Point Middle School today. As an FYI, the league record listed above may not be correct. It is unclear whether or not Council Rock-North is, in fact, in Neshaminy's division of the SOL. All indications are that they, in fact, are in our division, which would add two losses to the league record. We will confirm on a later post.

Mark Your Calendars!

One of Neshaminy Boys Volleyball's biggest fund-raisers of the year will take place on Monday, May 12th at the "Cheeburger Cheeburger" restaurant near Oxford Valley Mall. The team will get a percentage of all meals eaten at the restaurant that night, so bring your families and tell all your friends. Also, the annual team banquet is scheduled for June 3rd at Philadelphia Biblical University. Details to follow on a later post.

Neshaminy Wins SOL Showdown with Pennridge

(Varsity 6-4 Overall; 6-4 SOL National)
Langhorne, Pa. -- It was gut-check time at Maple Point Middle School on April 21 as Neshaminy sprinted out to a 2-0 lead in its match against second-place Pennridge. But the visitors came back to win the next two games before the Skins battled back for a 15-11 win in the decisive fifth game.

Neshaminy looked to be in total control in game five, racing to an 11-5 lead, but Pennridge cut the deficit to two on a couple of occasions. Two critical service errors spelled doom for Pennridge, and the Skins were able to get to that magic 15 number.

The win avenged a season-opening loss at Pennridge back on the last day of March and, more importantly, put Neshaminy in position to move into second place in the SOL National. The Skins travel to Truman on Wednesday for another SOL National match and then have a very strong North Penn squad headed to Maple Point Middle School on Thursday.

This Saturday, the team travels to Quakertown for an all-day tournament. The host school is the top team in the Suburban One American Division.

(Varsity 5-3 Overall; 5-3 SOL National)

Two More Matches This Week

The Neshaminy boys get a chance to take more of a stranglehold on third place in the SOL National standings on Monday with a home match against Bensalem, which is 1-3 in the league according to the Suburban One website. The Skins hope for revenge on Thursday when they travel to Council Rock-North for a non-league get-together. CR-North won at Neshaminy, 3-0, back on March 27. No upcoming weekend action for the Skins, and then comes a huge rematch against Pennridge at home a week from today. That game could be for second place in the standings as Pennridge is 6-2 in SOL play and Neshaminy is 4-2. Hard-charging North Penn with only two losses as well, bears watching as well.

Skins Beat Abington, Make Reading Tourney Final

(Varsity 4-3 Overall; 4-3 SOL National)
Neshaminy boys volleyball completed a fine week of work by upending Abington, 3-0, on April 10 and by having a great tournament in Reading, Pa., on April 12. By beating the Ghosts last Thursday, the Skins took over sole possession of third place in the Suburban One National standings behind undefeated Pennsbury and second-place Pennridge. The Reading tournament featured pool-play wins against Elizabethtown, Reading High and Reading Central Catholic. Neshaminy made it all the way to the final match against Haverford but lost 2-0 in the best-of-three. The event was held at Southern Middle School in Reading.

Powerful Pennsbury Beats Skins, 3-0

(Varsity 3-3 Overall; 3-3 SOL National)
Langhorne, Pa. -- The Pennsbury Falcons are undefeated in Suburban One National League play, and they're the 4th-ranked team in the Commonwealth. They showed why they have those lofty numbers with a 3-0 sweep of Neshaminy here tonight. The Skins were forced to play from behind all night, dropping behind early in all three games. But they were able to battle back in games one and two. The Falcons turned a 12-12 game into a 20-12 game in the first game and went on to a 25-16 win. Game two was the tightest as Pennsbury won by a 25-20 score. The third game was all Falcons, 25-11. Neshaminy MUST forget about today's loss and focus on Thursday's trip to Abington. The teams entered today's play tied for third place in the SOL National. The video is one of junior Ryan Vaccaro's kills in game two tonight ... off the nice set from senior Sam Ellis (not the greatest quality, but it's a PHONE, not a camera!)

(Varsity 3-2 overall; 3-2 SOL National)
Langhorne, Pa. -- Neshaminy ran its Suburban One National winning streak to three straight matches with a 3-0 sweep of Central Bucks South on the Skins home court on Monday (4/7). The game scores were 25-14, 25-21 and 25-22. Can the streak reach four? It will be one tall order as undefeated Pennsbury comes to Neshaminy on Wednesday night for a 7:00p tilt. Bring your family. Bring your friends. Bring the whole town for a HUGE night of volleyball at NHS.

Another Big Week Ahead

It will be lots of volleyball for the Neshaminy varsity this week, playing three Suburban One League matches and then finishing off with a tournament at Reading High School (a fine institution that produces really smart people, including the writer of this blog). The Skins host Central Bucks South (0-2 SOL National) on Monday (V at 3:30, JV to follow), play a rare home evening match against archrival and undefeated Pennsbury (5-0 SOL National) on Wednesday (JV at 5:30, V at 7:00), and then go to Abington on Thursday (V at 3:30, JV to follow). Neshaminy and Abington are tied for third place in the SOL National as of now. The bus leaves for Reading at 6:30a this coming Saturday. For coverage of Suburban One League volleyball, click here.

Skins Go 2-6 at Dock Tournament

(Matches do not count in team's record)
Lansdale, Pa. -- The sprawling campus of Christopher Dock Mennonite High School played host to an all-day tournament with 10 teams in attendance. Neshaminy's pool featured at opening-round match against North Penn where the result was a disappointing two-game loss (19-25, 17-25). The team's hopes were bolstered with a two-game win against Lower Merion (25-19, 25-16). Perhaps the pivotal moment in the day was a tight game against Bethlehem Freedom in match number-three. Freedom pulled through in the match, 25-21, and then won the next match by the same score. Christopher Dock finished off an undefeated performance in pool play with decisive wins against the Skins (25-16, 25-11). Neshaminy gets a chance for revenge against Dock in a May 7th non-league match; the final regular-season match of the year.

Neshaminy Gets Big Win at North Penn

(Varsity 2-2 Overall; 2-2 SOL National)
The Skins got their first road win of the year and pulled to .500 in Suburban One League play with a 3-1 win against North Penn. Neshaminy showed good resiliency after dropping a tight first game, 24-26. The team won the next three games for a big victory. Neshaminy will see this same North Penn team in the first round of the Christopher Dock tournament. Other teams in pool play will be Lower Merion, Bethlehem Freedom and the host school.
